Our New Hours

The classroom will be open Monday through Thursday with new hours.
The morning session will be 9:00 - 12:00.
The afternoon session will be 1:00 - 4:00.

The classroom will be closed Monday, September 5, Labor Day.
The first day of class is Tuesday, September 6.

Summer News

Most of you have already heard the news regarding summer session. When class starts up again on June 27, it will be held upstairs in our learning center classroom. Summer session runs for 6 weeks ending on August 5. Fall classes will start up on September 6 and will be held in our regular classroom.

For Clarification - Last day of class.

Just to clarify, the last day of class will be Thursday June 9.

The summer break will run from June 13 to June 24. Summer quarter will start June 27.

For Clarification - Potluck

Some good questions were asked, and some observations were made about the Potluck Celebration.

Originally it started as just a potluck, one last fun event before summer break. Then there was a change in our regular graduation ceremony, where we usually celebrate the IC3 completions. Due to growing numbers of GED graduates as well as our own IC3 graduates, it was decided that IC3 would have a separate celebration.

In an attempting to accomplish this, we originally thought that combining the two...potluck & celebration, would be a great solution. We have since realized this is not necessarily the case.

Because we celebrate all the IC3 completions for the entire year there is a distinct possibility that there could be more people attending the celebration than we normally have in our classroom. There is also the possibility that people may want to include their families in recognizing their accomplishments. In the past we have encouraged this.

SOOOO...What does this mean??

It means this - We have come to the decision to have the celebration on Friday June 10, at noon. Cake and punch will be served, provided by SkillSource. In an effort to include all students (past and present) and their families, we will not try to have a potluck at the same time. We do ask that if you plan on attending, please email Gloria (gloriaa@skillsource.org) and if possible let us know how many people you will be inviting.

I am sorry for all the confusion and changing of information. I hope this will clear things up. We can plan on having a potluck at a later date.

Trainers Request

The Trainers have requested that we remind all students, the appropriate way to contact them if you need to speak with them is to go through the front desk assistant. Because of the sensitive nature of information handled on a regular basis, they need you to not approach them unannounced by going through the back hallway.


They appreciate everyones cooperation with this. :)

For those of you working through the Word packets for New Horizons, please take a look at the revised portfolio sheets. You do not need to replace your current portfolio sheet, simply make a note of the assignments you are no longer required to do.  Think Green!!

Food for Thought - IC3

As we are talking about planning a picnic potluck to wrap up the year we also want to use that as an opportunity to acknowledge the students that have completed IC3.

If you are close to finishing and would like to be done before the picnic, please talk to one of us and let us know so we can help and encourage you in any way possible.

Food for Thought - New Horizons

If you find yourself struggling with the Video portion of your training, consider the idea that you may not be an auditory learning.


We want to encourage you all to use the learning tools that work best for you. If you are a hands on learner we would recommend that you try using the Online Anytime training together with the packets, and see if that works better for you.


If you are an Auditory learner, try listening to the Video Trainer and then complete the packets for some hands on practice.


We are hoping that making this change will benefit the students. Please let us know if you have any comments or concerns.

PUD "On-call" Office Services Support Specialist (Closes at midnight April 26, 2011)

A great opportunity to get your foot in the door at the PUD.  They usually hire for other positions from this pool of people. The position is pretty busy because they fill in for all departments when people are out or on vacation, etc.  What a way to find out which dept you would like to work in at a company?  You can fill out an application online. If they are interested then they will call you and set up tests for Word, Excel and typing.

Did you know...

In our classroom we are always striving to bring you the best training to help you get the job you want. As a result from time to time things will change. While we always try our hardest to keep everyone informed, occasionally we will miss someone.


We are hoping that using this blog will help us to avoid that.


One of the changes that we made recently has to do with the New Horizons Packets. In the Word 2007 lessons we did away with Lesson 10 and replaced it with Lesson 16. The packets have been replaced in the drawer and I tried to update everyones data files. If I missed anyone and you need the data files to complete this packet please let me know so I can get them in your H:// folder.


For those of you who were done with Word before we made this change, feel free to complete this packet. Mail Merge is one of those tools that Word offers that can be extremely useful.


Anyone preparing for the 2007 certification exams...you should complete this packet. There are questions regarding mail merge on the exam.
