What is graupel?

Last night I was listening to the KIRO weather report and heard a new term. I had to do a Google search for weather terms because I didn't know how to spell the word.

So can anyone tell me (Gloria) what graupel is?

    Graupel is a type of precipitation often referred to as snow pellets or soft hail.
